5 Tips to Avoid Traffic Congestion During Peak Hours

Everyone on the road must have had that one day where you really needed to get somewhere urgently but the congestion just doesn’t allow it. It’s like some unknown force has it out for you today, doesn’t it? But fear not, because in today’s blog, that’s exactly what we will be tackling so that your hauls and any journey in general doesn’t make you question your entire existence (or is that just me when I’m in a jiffy?)

So without further ado, these are our top 5 tips based on our research and the facts:

1. Plan Ahead Like a Pro

This goes without saying, but planning is always a driver’s no.1 best friend to tackle these situations. We discussed avenues to plan ahead in our last blog, so check that one out if you want more details. Some key points to bear in mind are to identify the rush hour and commute to work ahead or after it. This way, you’ll get to where you need to get in good time. Find all your routes and the time it’ll take you as part of planning etc.

2. Carpooling: A Smart Move for All

Carpooling is a very good option to decongest the roads. It’s when you commute by car with others who are taking the same route as you as compared to going individually. This is not only effective at decongesting roads, which in turn limit traffic, but also reduces emissions, so it is environmentally friendly. This, however, makes the greatest change when done collectively. So take initiative—start carpooling with others and find opportunities to do so rather than going solo. Spread awareness and push it to people. Real change happens when everyone gets on board.

3. Avoid Rush Hour Altogether (If Possible)

This advice is mainly for those in sectors that allow flexible hours, whatever the sector may be. Whether it be that you can do flexible hours or you can move the timing of your hours around, either is viable here. So instead of commuting at peak traffic, travel outside that time to work so you can avoid the rush. Whether that means waking up extra early to get an early start or a late start past 10 a.m.—whatever floats your boat.

4. Explore Remote Work Opportunities

Look for remote roles in your work and establishment. If the rush hour is really affecting your work and your job, it may be time to look into more remote options. Whether that means to slowly hybrid in remote hours or go fully remote depends on your circumstances. Or slowly transitioning into a more remote role altogether, while holding onto your current job as you transition along, until you are at a steady place to go fully remote. Freelance work would be good for that.

5. Public Transport and Alternative Commute Options

Public transport is another very accommodating option for all drivers. These vehicles often have designated routes and priority, so they cut down on delays and traffic, if any. Check if public transport is a good option for you, depending on whether they take the routes to the area of work and how far to walk from the drop-off station. If it all works out, then bus, tram, or metro can all be great solutions. Also, they are cheaper and cut down on travel expenses as well. They also do discounts for frequently commuting persons, so look out for those. Or simply cycling or walking to work also avoids the rush hour if it’s close by and you know deep down you could walk it there, but it is more comfy to drive. That change of pace and light exercise to and from work will refresh your body, mind, and soul and start and end the day on a positive note.
